A Tip On Hiring Your First Employee

Since I’ve bootstrapped my business since 2009 I’d like to share my thoughts on hiring my first employees.

I think the best tip for hiring your first employee is to hire more the person than the individual skills a person may have. For me, this was difficult as I’m running a resume company, so I first look at applicants qualifications on paper before anything else.

However, in terms of being a startup, having people who can learn and grow and exhibit great flexibility in their careers have proven the most valuable for me.

Finding someone with the personality and independent problem-solving mindset is the biggest thing to look for in initial hires. Later on you can become more focused in skills-based hiring.
