Solid time management skills will make your life much easier
Me: Hey how are you doing?
Joe: Great. I am crazy busy.
Me: How’s business?
Joe: I’m doing really well. I have tons of things going on this week – a bunch of meetings and events. I gotta run. Let’s catch up soon. I will find you on Facebook.
Me: Sounds great.
We’re so busy being busy.
Here’s the deal with Joe. His business revenue has plateaued for 5 years because he is so busy doing the wrong stuff. He is checking email every 20 minutes, he is on Facebook, going to lunch with the wrong people. He’s crazy busy, but he isn’t growing his business.
I had coffee with a senior branding executive in L.A. and asked her what the top problem her clients had as entrepreneurs. I was thinking the answer would be: developing a marketing plan, hiring staff, or dealing with cash
flow. The answer was time management.
We know deep down that we should be getting more things done but we don’t abide by any time management system and regress back to mediocrity and chill in the gunk and sludge.
We are all given the same 24 hours each day. It’s what we decide to do with it that will determine our level of success; how we will impact people’s lives and reach our goals.
All of my clients’ financial plans have some sort of action steps to take to reach their goals. But that’s not going to happen without some sense of time management.
Smart entrepreneurs excel at 3 things: focus, time management, and taking massive action.
They block time to:
.. work on their business
.. work in their business
.. rejuvenate and take time off
They make lists and are intentional with what they need to do. They cross things off the list, and move on to the next most important thing. They aren’t so crazy busy like every other Joe Shmoe.
