Why You Need To Have A Goal In Mind For Your Social Media Strategy
For businesses just starting out there are several things to keep in mind. First, you don’t have to be on every channel just because it exists. If your customers aren’t on Twitter, putting time and effort into setting up and managing a page there won’t pay off. Go where your customers are.
Second, have a goal in mind. Know what you hope to accomplish with each medium. Are you trying to direct people to your website? Raise awareness? Increase engagement? Knowing this ahead of time will help you build and express your social media plan, which leads us to…
Have a plan! Worse than not having a social presence is having a social presence that’s not updated. If your customers go looking for your Facebook page and find it’s empty or hasn’t been active in months, they’ll go somewhere else. Creating an editorial calendar or content plan can help you know when and what you’re going to post to stay top of mind with current and potential clients.
Lastly, and most importantly, if you wouldn’t want to read it don’t post it! If you hate seeing updates selling you items or spewing the same information, be sure you aren’t saying the same thing. Stay relevant to your brand, but be interesting. If all you do is hawk your products and services, your audience will tune you out.
