How To Test A Prospective Employee

There is no better way to understand how a prospective employee will perform than to assign a meaningful task that can be completed within 10 minutes. Try to assign a problem that will allow you to learn how the candidate processes information and develops solutions. You will learn how a candidate performs under pressure, their approach to decision making and their overall competency in a particularised skill set. Look at the person when you assign the task and study their reaction.

Confident employees will enjoy challenges and their ability to showcase talent while sub-par talent will reveal themselves to be nervous and unsure. I have found that I surprise many a candidate with my pop-quiz challenges but the hiring process is an opportunity to find true talent and avoid dangerous incompetence.
